A late signee for the 2025 class.

The Illinois Fighting Illini women’s basketball team strengthened its 2025 lineup on Tuesday by securing the commitment of Gisela Segura, a forward transferring from Long Island.

Originally from Cervera, Spain, Segura played the 2024-25 season at LIU following four years at Division II Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire. She brings one year of eligibility to the Illini.

The 5-foot-11 Segura averaged 5.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in 27.3 minutes for the Sharks last season, with shooting percentages of 36.4% from the field, 22% from beyond the arc, and 52.9% from the foul line.

Segura brings valuable experience and much-needed depth to a team that faced significant injury challenges this past season. Both Makira Cook and Gretchen Dolan were absent for the last 24 games, Berry Wallace missed seven, Jasmine Brown-Hagger sat out five, and the Illini were without bigs Lety Vasconcelos (knee) and Shay Bollin (back) for the entire 2024-25 season.

Segura is the eighth player to join Illinois’ impressive 2025 recruiting class and the third transfer, alongside wing Maddie Webber from Villanova and guard Aaliyah Guyton from Iowa.
