Josh Allen Faces Significant Challenge in Bills’ Super Bowl Pursuit

The Buffalo Bills enter the 2025 season as favorites to once again capture the AFC East, with quarterback Josh Allen aiming to build on his MVP performance from the previous year and lead the team to a Super Bowl victory.

For the Bills, the pressure of Super Bowl aspirations is certainly preferable to the alternative of vying for the top pick in next year’s NFL Draft. Head coach Sean McDermott addressed the team’s mindset heading into OTAs, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive outlook despite the high expectations.

“You can look at it one of two ways: Are you trying to move closer to success, or are you fearing failure?” McDermott said. “We choose to move toward success every day — individually, as a team, and as an organization.”

As the five-time reigning AFC East champions, the Bills are expected to contend for the Super Bowl in 2025, with Allen’s leadership under the spotlight. For the 29-year-old quarterback, this season represents the opportunity to push the team over the hump and end a 32-year Super Bowl drought for Buffalo.

However, with that heightened expectation comes immense pressure. According to Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon, Allen faces a key obstacle this season: the weight of “expectations.” As an MVP, he’s now expected to lead the Bills to victory every week, and any playoff disappointment in 2025 could lead to significant scrutiny.

While Allen has been exceptional in recent playoff games, Buffalo’s past failures can often be attributed to areas outside of his control. His ability to elevate his supporting cast is part of the reason he won the MVP award, and his leadership will be vital if the Bills are to succeed this year.

“He is as confident and as calm, cool, and collected as he always is,” McDermott remarked, expressing confidence in his quarterback’s ability to handle the pressure.

It seems Allen is ready for the challenge ahead as he looks to push the Bills toward their first Super Bowl appearance in over three decades.
