Four-Star PG Jonathan Sanderson Chooses Notre Dame
Jonathan Sanderson, a four-star point guard in the 2026 class, has officially committed to Notre Dame, as reported by On3.
The 6-foot-2 senior from La Lumiere School (IN) selected Micah Shrewsberry’s Fighting Irish over offers from several programs, including Michigan State, Ohio State, Oregon, Purdue, Creighton, and others.
A native of Saline, Michigan, Sanderson is Notre Dame’s first commitment for the 2026 class.
Sanderson Reflects on His Decision to Commit to Notre Dame
In an interview with On3, Sanderson shared why he chose the Fighting Irish.
“I picked Notre Dame because it felt like the best fit for my playing style,” he explained. “I really admire how they use their guards, and the way Coach Shrewsberry understands and teaches the game is a big draw for me. I also love the overall culture and environment around the program.”
What Type of Player Is Notre Dame Getting?
Describing his game, Sanderson said: “I give everything I have on the court every time I play. As a point guard, I can score from all three levels and create plays for my teammates at a high level. A lot of people are surprised by my athleticism—I take pride in adding that extra edge to my game.”
He also shared a message for Notre Dame fans: “Fans should know they’re getting a player who competes hard on every play and brings high energy. Winning is my top priority, and I’ll do whatever it takes to help us succeed.”
Sanderson is ranked as the No. 51 overall recruit in the 2026 class, No. 8 among point guards, and No. 1 in Indiana, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. This ranking is a composite of data from all four major recruiting outlets.
A Family Connection to Notre Dame’s Staff
Jonathan Sanderson is the son of Jon Sanderson, Notre Dame’s new Director of Men’s Basketball Strength & Conditioning. Jon Sanderson, who has worked at multiple schools including Michigan, is the only strength coach in NCAA history to have both played (Ohio State, 1999) and coached (Michigan, 2013 & 2018) in a Final Four.
“We’re excited to welcome Jon to our staff,” Coach Shrewsberry said. “He’s one of the best strength coaches in the country, and his addition is a huge boost for our program. Our focus is on player development, and Jon’s success at multiple programs makes him a perfect fit.”
