Incredible Footage Shows Absurd Reason Chicago Cubs’ Nico Hoerner Was Ejected

The Chicago Cubs found themselves under intense scrutiny this weekend, as they took on the Detroit Tigers, who currently hold the best record in Major League Baseball. With the Cubs sitting atop the National League standings, it was a highly anticipated series.

Although they couldn’t win the series, dropping two out of three games, it was an eventful weekend with plenty of Cubs fans making the trip to Detroit. Unfortunately, the series was marred by some controversial umpire decisions, which reached a boiling point during Sunday’s final game.

Cubs’ Nico Hoerner Ejected For Almost Nothing

In the fifth inning, Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner was called out on a pitch that TV cameras clearly showed was low and inside, well outside the strike zone. Hoerner turned to voice his frustration to the home plate umpire, Derek Thomas, and before he could say much, he was ejected from the game. The quick ejection also led to Cubs manager Craig Counsell being tossed.

Afterward, audio from Marquee Sports revealed that Hoerner’s ejection was over what might be the tamest interaction in recent memory. All Hoerner said was, “You’re having a really bad day,” before being thrown out.

When asked by the media about the ejection, Hoerner humorously explained, “I don’t think it’s very often you can say verbatim what got you thrown out. I just said, ‘You’re having a really bad day.’”

Counsell was equally upset, calling the decision to eject Hoerner completely unjustified: “The ejection of Nico was completely unwarranted. There’s nothing that was said that warrants an ejection. You can’t eject players and affect the outcome of games for no reason.”

Hoerner, Counsell, and the Cubs now have to quickly move past this incident as they look ahead to a tough stretch of games. They will face the Philadelphia Phillies on the road this week, with challenging pitching matchups, followed by a four-game home series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, all with no off days in between.
