The Tennessee Volunteers have added Marion Hobby to the defensive staff.
The Tennessee Volunteers have welcomed Marion Hobby to their defensive coaching staff.
As the college football season approaches, with just months until kickoff, teams are still making updates to their coaching rosters. The Volunteers are among those making changes, having recently hired Marion Hobby to their defensive team, according to Matt Zenitz.
Hobby is a former player for Tennessee, where he achieved first-team All-SEC honors in 1989. After three seasons in the NFL as a third-round draft pick, he transitioned to coaching in 1995.
He served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Tennessee in 1998 before moving on to the NFL, where he began as the defensive ends coach for the New Orleans Saints in 2006. Later, he returned to college football, eventually becoming co-defensive coordinator at Clemson, contributing to the Tigers’ national championship win in 2016. Following that, he returned to the NFL, holding defensive line coaching positions with the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and most recently, the Cincinnati Bengals.
After being let go from his role in Cincinnati earlier this year, Hobby is now making a return to his alma mater.
