Patriots Add Former Dolphins Analytics Director to Staff
The New England Patriots continue to bolster their growing analytics department with another key hire.
According to ESPN’s Seth Walder, the Patriots have brought Max Mulitz on board as their new Personnel Analytics Coordinator. This marks the second significant addition to the analytics team in the past month, following the hiring of Ekene Olekanma as the director of coaching analytics.
Mulitz began his career in NFL analytics in 2015 as a full-time intern in the Philadelphia Eagles’ data research department. In 2018, he joined the Miami Dolphins as a football analyst. After one season, Mulitz was promoted to manager of coaching analytics, a position he held through 2020. For the past four years, he served as the Dolphins’ director of coaching analytics before parting ways with the team in March.
Beyond his NFL experience, Mulitz earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematical economics from Brown University and later pursued a master’s degree in data science at George Washington University.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has consistently advocated for the integration of analytics into coaching strategies. Ahead of Monday’s mandatory minicamp practice at Gillette Stadium, Vrabel shared his thoughts on how analytics will support decision-making within the coaching staff and front office.
“We want to leverage technology to improve efficiency and help make better, informed decisions,” Vrabel explained. “While we can’t base every decision purely on numbers, analytics are important in asking the right questions and making well-rounded decisions across all areas — from personnel and coaching to player health, strength, and conditioning.”
He continued, “We aim to rely on data to make informed decisions about coaching, self-scouting, and opponent analysis, ensuring we become more efficient in all aspects of our program.”
