Georgia Tech Secures First Commitment for 2027 Class with WR Jordan Christie’s Pledge
While much of the recruiting focus remains on the 2026 class, Georgia Tech made a splash for the 2027 class by landing its first commitment. Jordan Christie, a top wide receiver from Southwest DeKalb High School in Georgia, announced on social media that he would be the first member of the Yellow Jackets’ 2027 class. His commitment gives head coach Brent Key and wide receivers coach Trent McKnight an early victory for next year’s recruiting class.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Christie is ranked as the No. 392 player nationally, the No. 52 wide receiver, and the No. 49 player in Georgia. He already holds offers from several programs, including Auburn, Georgia, Indiana, UCF, Utah, and West Virginia.
Though it’s still early in the process, Christie is a talented in-state recruit, and Key has made it a priority to sign top Georgia players. This commitment marks a solid start to a long recruiting journey for the 2027 class, with Georgia Tech securing an important early pledge.
In addition to Christie’s commitment, Georgia Tech also landed a 2026 recruit on the same night. Offensive lineman Bear Fretwell announced his commitment to the Yellow Jackets.
Fretwell shared his excitement about Georgia Tech, stating, “One of my favorite things is the way they want to win. They are all striving for the same goal, and that is the championship. The team is closer than that. It’s a family and I love the way that Coach Key loves the game and his players are second to none. It’s really inspiring the way he loves what he does. GT is on the rise, and you would have to see it to understand what they will be very soon.”
Fretwell, a 6’7”, 330-pound three-star offensive tackle from Southeast Bulloch, is ranked No. 50 among offensive tackles, No. 66 in Georgia, and No. 590 nationally. His recruitment took off in the spring after receiving offers from schools like UAB, Kennesaw State, and Tennessee Tech. He also mentioned the importance of his strong relationship with Georgia Tech’s offensive line coach, Geep Wade, in his decision to commit.
“I can’t wait to play for him,” Fretwell said about Coach Wade.
Georgia Tech’s recruiting efforts continue to pick up steam as they also hosted standout offensive lineman Tyreek Jemison for an official visit this past weekend. The Yellow Jackets have now secured a commitment every week following an official visit and have reached double-digit commitments for the 2026 class.
In addition, Georgia Tech received good news Sunday morning with top recruit Traeviss Stevenson earning a four-star ranking from 247Sports. With these developments, the Yellow Jackets are gaining momentum and solidifying a strong recruiting class.
