Steelers’ Troy Fautanu Announces Engagement Ahead of Important 2026 Season
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Troy Fautanu has plenty to celebrate before the start of training camp after announcing his engagement to longtime girlfriend Carys Zayda.
The third-year lineman shared the news on social media during the NFL’s summer break, posting a photo of his fiancée with the caption, “I did something ya’ll.” The announcement comes as Steelers players enjoy their final weeks away from football before reporting for training camp.
Congratulations poured in for the couple as Fautanu marks a major personal milestone ahead of what could be the biggest season of his professional career.
Preparing for a New Role on the Offensive Line
While his engagement is the highlight of the offseason, Fautanu is also preparing for a significant change on the field.
After spending last season at right tackle, the former first-round pick is expected to move to left tackle in 2026, where he’ll be responsible for protecting quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ blind side.
Fautanu played left tackle during his college career at Washington, though the Steelers initially believed he was a better fit on the right side because he blocked for left-handed quarterback Michael Penix Jr. With Broderick Jones’ future less certain and injury concerns affecting the position, Pittsburgh has elected to shift Fautanu back to the left side. Guard Mason McCormick is also expected to change positions after previously playing right guard.
During organized team activities, Fautanu acknowledged the transition came with an adjustment period but expressed confidence that repetition would make the move feel natural.
He admitted the switch felt “rusty” early on but emphasized his willingness to play wherever the team needs him most.
A Defining Year Ahead
The upcoming season carries significant importance for both Fautanu and the Steelers.
Pittsburgh is counting on its revamped offensive line to take a major step forward while helping anchor an offense led by Aaron Rodgers, who has indicated 2026 will be the final season of his career. The organization is also looking for improvements under new offensive leadership as it aims to remain a contender.
If Fautanu successfully establishes himself as the team’s long-term left tackle, he could position himself for a lucrative contract extension. The Steelers are expected to exercise his fifth-year option, and continued development could eventually place him among the league’s highest-paid players at the position.
