NBA Insider Reveals Major Update on Heat’s Trade Package for Kevin Durant
The Miami Heat appear to be in a strong position to land superstar forward Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns, but only if they offer the right trade package.
It’s almost certain that guard duo Terry Rozier and Duncan Robinson, along with draft picks, will be involved in any deal to match salaries, as picks are typically part of any major trade. However, the key sticking point in negotiations between the Heat and Suns seems to be rookie center Kel’el Ware.
The issue is clear: Phoenix wants Ware, but Miami is unwilling to part with him. NBA insider Marc Stein revealed a bombshell update that might not surprise long-time Heat fans.
“Sources say Miami is firmly opposed to including standout rookie center Kel’el Ware in their offers for Durant,” Stein reported on The Stein Line. “If Ware isn’t part of the trade package, Phoenix is likely to seek future first-round picks from Miami to finalize a deal for Durant.”
Miami president Pat Riley’s tough negotiating stance is not surprising, given his history of playing hardball.
This strategy has backfired in the past, as the Heat missed out on players like Damian Lillard and Donovan Mitchell due to their reluctance to include certain assets.
If the Heat continue to hold firm on keeping Ware, Phoenix may be more inclined to accept future first-round picks instead, as Stein mentioned. Miami still has all of its first-round picks, except for 2027, meaning Riley’s persistent approach to securing All-Stars could finally pay off.
