Michigan Football Secures First Running Back Commitment for 2026 Class
The Wolverines have officially landed their first running back for the 2026 class, though it came in the late hours.
After striking out with several of their running back targets for 2026, Michigan finally received a commitment from Jonathan Brown, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound running back from Columbus (OH) St. Francis de Sales. Brown made his pledge to Michigan after midnight.
Currently unranked on the Composite, Brown is considered a three-star prospect by Rivals, where he is listed as the 44th-best running back in the 2026 class. He held offers from schools like Air Force, Army, Navy, Kent State, and Rutgers, among others.
Though not yet highly ranked, Brown has been gaining attention as a rising talent. He impressed Michigan coaches during a recent camp, running a 4.55-second 40-yard dash and earning MVP honors.
“Those who have seen Brown aren’t surprised,” wrote 247Sports analyst Allen Trieu about his rising stock. “He has size (6-1, 200 pounds) and was an All-State honorable mention with 1,295 yards and 16 touchdowns last fall. He also showed his athleticism at the Under Armour All-America Regional, where he ran a 4.56 forty, a 4.39 shuttle, and a notable 6.94 in the L-Drill.”
With this commitment, Michigan now has 11 total pledges in the 2026 class.
