Panthers-Ravens Trade Proposal Could Bring 2x All-Pro to Carolina After Jaire Alexander Move
The Carolina Panthers could still land a Ravens cornerback after missing out on Jaire Alexander.
Carolina was reportedly very interested in signing Alexander when he was released, but the Baltimore Ravens swooped in and added him to their already stacked secondary. However, the Panthers’ loss might turn into a potential gain.
With Alexander now in Baltimore and a mix of younger players in the secondary, Anthony Palacios from Last Word on Sports speculated that veteran Marlon Humphrey might be on the trade block. If he becomes available, Palacios believes Carolina should seize the opportunity.
Palacios pointed out that despite efforts to rebuild the roster, the Panthers are still “nowhere near” playoff contender status. He thinks the current cornerback duo of Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson is decent but could use an upgrade, especially with Tre’von Moehrig as the only backup at safety.
Carolina has limited depth at cornerback, which is why they were initially interested in Alexander. Right now, Humphrey isn’t on the market, as the Ravens acquired Alexander to strengthen their secondary further, making it unlikely they’d trade away their top corner.
Even if Humphrey does become available, the Panthers would likely avoid the sweepstakes. As a two-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl corner, Humphrey would command a hefty price in draft picks, something Carolina, still far from being a contender, can’t afford to give up.
