The Islanders sign forward Julien Gauthier to a one-year, two-way contract
The New York Islanders have signed forward Julien Gauthier to a one-year, two-way deal.
Gauthier, 27, tallied eight points (three goals, five assists) in nine games last season with Bridgeport, the Islanders’ AHL affiliate, and appeared in one NHL game before an injury on November 24 against the Hartford Wolf Pack sidelined him for the rest of the 2024-25 season.
A native of Pointe-aux-Trembles, Quebec, Gauthier was selected 21st overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft. Over his NHL career, he has registered 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) in 181 games with the Islanders, Rangers, Senators, and Hurricanes, and appeared in three playoff games for the Rangers in 2020.
In the AHL, Gauthier has amassed 123 points (81 goals, 42 assists) in 214 games with Bridgeport, the Charlotte Checkers, and Hartford Wolf Pack. He also recorded 10 points (six goals, four assists) in 25 Calder Cup Playoff games with Charlotte.
Before turning pro, Gauthier played four seasons in the QMJHL with the Val-d’Or Foreurs and Saint John Sea Dogs, and represented Team Canada at the World Junior Championships in 2016 and 2017.
