Report Reveals Pelicans’ Plans Regarding All-Defensive Star Herb Jones
A recent report from NBA insider Jake Fischer sheds light on the New Orleans Pelicans’ stance regarding their All-Defensive wing, Herb Jones, amid growing trade rumors.
The word “trade” has been circulating around the Pelicans’ fanbase, especially after reports surfaced that the team shocked the Atlanta Hawks by offering their unprotected 2026 first-round pick to move up in the 2025 NBA Draft. Despite this, it’s evident that the Pelicans have a crowded roster and may need to make moves to balance their lineup.
With 12 players on the roster potentially deserving of a rotation spot, many have speculated that one of the team’s top wings could be on the move. However, Fischer’s latest report suggests that Jones is unlikely to be traded.
“I’m not expecting a Herb Jones trade. It’s one of the best contracts in the league, and New Orleans knows that,” Fischer said during a livestream. “As much as New Orleans has done some unexpected things, I don’t see them moving Herb Jones anytime soon.”
The 2024-25 season was a tough one for Jones, as injuries limited him to just 20 games, significantly impacting his performance. However, in the previous season, he averaged 11.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, posting a 63.6 TS% and earning All-Defensive First Team honors.
Looking at his contract, Jones is set to earn just under $29 million over the next two years—a great value for a player of his caliber. With the Pelicans likely going all-in for a playoff push after offering the 2026 first-round pick, a Jones trade could be considered if the team’s plans don’t go as expected next season.
