Titans Add Former UFL Cornerback in Latest Roster Move

Titans Add Former UFL Cornerback, Waive/Injure Rookie Linebacker

The Tennessee Titans are turning to the UFL for help in the secondary, signing cornerback Corey Mayfield Jr. while waiving/injuring rookie linebacker Sean Brown in the corresponding roster move.

Tennessee’s secondary has emerged as one of the team’s biggest concerns this offseason. Following a shaky joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers and a rough showing in the preseason opener, the Titans have decided to add another defensive back to the roster.

Mayfield most recently played for the Louisville Kings and joins the Titans at an important time for the secondary. His arrival also comes shortly after safety Nazeeh Johnson received a six-game suspension, creating another need in the defensive backfield.

It remains unclear exactly how Mayfield will fit into Robert Saleh’s defense, but the 26-year-old has put together an impressive stretch in the UFL that earned him another opportunity in the NFL.

Corey Mayfield Jr. Brings UFL Production to Tennessee

Mayfield began his UFL career with the San Antonio Brahmas before eventually joining the Louisville Kings. He took his game to another level during the Kings’ 2026 season.

In just nine regular-season appearances, Mayfield recorded four interceptions. That marked a significant improvement from the one interception he had during his previous season with San Antonio and helped earn him All-UFL honors.

The cornerback previously spent a short period with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, but he never established himself on an NFL roster. His opportunity with Tennessee gives the 26-year-old another chance to prove he belongs at the highest level.

Titans Move on From Rookie Linebacker

The roster move came at the expense of Sean Brown, who signed with Tennessee after going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Brown spent all five seasons of his college career at NC State. His best statistical season came in 2024, when he recorded three sacks and forced two fumbles.

The rookie linebacker appeared in Tennessee’s preseason opener and recorded one tackle. He now finds himself looking for another opportunity as the Titans make room for additional help in the secondary.

On paper, the move amounts to a depth-for-depth swap. However, given the concerns surrounding Tennessee’s defensive backs, adding another experienced option could prove useful as the preseason continues.

Mayfield should have an opportunity to see the field quickly and make his case for a roster spot.

The Titans will return to preseason action on Aug. 23, when they host the Seattle Seahawks.
