Cleveland Browns Linked to Potential Pro Bowl Trade with Miami Dolphins
Could the Cleveland Browns be eyeing a trade with the Miami Dolphins for a Pro Bowl player before the 2025 NFL season kicks off?
Outside of their active moves during the NFL Draft, where Cleveland made several deals, the Browns have remained relatively quiet on the trade front this offseason. This is somewhat surprising considering the number of tradeable assets they appear to have, but there’s still time for the team to make moves ahead of the 2025 campaign.
One player who could be a trade candidate is former Pro Bowl tight end David Njoku. Entering the final year of his contract, Njoku saw the Browns add another tight end, Harold Fannin Jr., through the draft. While rumors about Njoku being traded have been sparse in recent months, many are now speculating that Miami could be a potential landing spot.
The Dolphins recently traded away star tight end Jonnu Smith, in a deal that also saw Jalen Ramsey move to the Pittsburgh Steelers, creating a need for a new tight end in Miami.
However, Mac Blank of Dawg Pound Daily cautioned the Browns against moving Njoku, highlighting his recent productivity in Cleveland’s passing game.
The issue, though, is that Njoku has been somewhat underwhelming since being drafted by the Browns in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In eight seasons, he has surpassed 500 yards receiving just four times. While his 2023 campaign was a bright spot, with 81 catches for 882 yards and six touchdowns, earning him a Pro Bowl selection, he took a noticeable step back the following year.
It’s worth noting that Cleveland’s quarterback situation hasn’t exactly been stable, which could have impacted Njoku’s performance. Still, the question remains: would the Browns consider re-signing an aging Njoku with Fannin waiting in the wings?
Although a trade before the season starts seems unlikely, there’s a good chance Cleveland could move Njoku at the trade deadline if the team is out of playoff contention by then.
