“Shocking” — NFL Fans Split Over Buccaneers’ $30 Million Vita Vea Extension
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached a $30 million contract extension with Vita Vea, but NFL fans remain divided over whether the team made the right move.

Vea, a Super Bowl champion and two-time Pro Bowler, has established himself as one of the NFL’s top interior defensive linemen. Despite his impressive résumé, he was scheduled to earn just $17 million in 2026, a figure that apparently wasn’t enough for the veteran defender. He had even requested a trade in July as uncertainty surrounding his future with Tampa Bay grew.
Instead of moving him, the Buccaneers chose to keep Vea around. The new deal reportedly keeps him under contract for the next two seasons while also adding another $6 million to his earnings for the current season.
Fans Have Mixed Feelings About Vea’s New Deal
While there’s little doubt about Vea’s ability, his age has become a major talking point. The defensive tackle is now 31, and although he has continued to play at an elite level, there’s no guarantee that he’ll maintain that production over the next couple of seasons.
That has led to a split among Buccaneers and NFL fans. Some see the extension as a necessary move to retain an elite defensive presence, while others believe Tampa Bay may have committed too much money to an aging defensive tackle.
One fan argued that the deal reflects the changing NFL market, saying that dominant defensive tackles who can consistently collapse the pocket are becoming increasingly valuable. Another called the extension a “no-brainer” and praised the Buccaneers for rewarding Vea.
Others were far less convinced. One fan described the contract as a “big overpay” and suggested Tampa Bay should have explored trading him. Another said giving a 31-year-old defensive tackle $30 million was “shocking.”
There were also fans who viewed the contract as a bargain, pointing out how valuable Vea is at occupying blockers and disrupting opposing offenses. At the same time, some still believed the Buccaneers would have been better off trading him while his value remained high.
Ultimately, the success of the extension will likely depend on Vea’s health and performance. If he continues playing at an elite level, Tampa Bay could look back on the $30 million deal as excellent business. But if injuries or age begin to affect his production, the Buccaneers could have serious regrets by 2027.
