Atlanta Hawks Sign Luke Kennard, Adding Elite 3-Point Shooter to Roster
The Atlanta Hawks have officially signed guard Luke Kennard, bolstering their roster with one of the NBA’s top sharpshooters.
Kennard, 29, had an impressive 2024-25 season with the Memphis Grizzlies, averaging 8.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He also posted a remarkable 47.8% shooting from the field and 43.3% from beyond the arc in 65 games.
On Tuesday, the Hawks announced the deal, though the terms were not disclosed in line with team policy.
The former Duke standout was selected 12th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft and has since played for the Detroit Pistons, LA Clippers, and Memphis Grizzlies over his eight-year career.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on June 30 that Kennard has agreed to a one-year, $11 million contract with the Hawks, with negotiations led by CAA’s Aaron Mintz and Dave Spahn. Known for his elite shooting, Kennard is expected to make an immediate impact in Atlanta.
In 2022-23, Kennard led the NBA in 3-point shooting at an incredible 49.4%, nearly 50% from deep, a feat few players ever achieve. He boasts a career 3-point shooting percentage of 43.9% and has never shot below 39% from three in any season.
The Hawks, who finished last season as the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 40-42 record, will be looking to improve after missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year following losses in the play-in tournament to the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat.
Kennard’s elite shooting will likely make him a fan favorite in Atlanta in no time.
