With just a month to go until kickoff in Atlanta, the excitement of football season is building. As we count down to opening day, here’s the latest on Syracuse football and all things Orange.

Recruiting News:
Syracuse recently made a major splash by landing five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell—the program’s first five-star recruit in two decades. The momentum didn’t stop there. Three-star offensive tackle Roseby Lubintus, also known by his nickname “Purgatory,” flipped his commitment from Penn State to Syracuse on July 9. He marks the team’s sixth offensive line commit and third offensive tackle in the 2026 recruiting class, and is now the highest-rated offensive line prospect in that group.
Syracuse Football Summer Recap and Updates
In just the span of June and July, Syracuse has landed verbal commitments from 15 players across multiple positions, showcasing serious recruiting momentum. Among the standouts are Jimmy Greg, the top-ranked punter in the 2026 class, and Shay Baker, ranked seventh among kickers. On July 11, Syracuse added two more athletes: punter Mateja Pavlovich and three-star athlete Cameron Harris-Taylor. Head coach Fran Brown’s vision for a strong recruiting push has become reality, as the Orange now boast the nation’s 22nd-ranked recruiting class.
Roster Shake-Up
However, not all news has been positive. Defensive end KingJoseph Edwards, a former four-star prospect expected to have a breakout season, has entered the transfer portal. Just last year, Syracuse won a competitive recruitment battle for Edwards, edging out schools like Florida State and Colorado. Now, the Orange lose one of their most promising defensive line pieces.
Quarterback Battle & ACC Media Day
With ACC Media Day approaching on July 22, Syracuse has announced its player representatives: redshirt seniors Duce Chestnut (CB), Derek McDonald (LB), Dion Wilson (DL), and redshirt sophomore quarterback Rickie Collins. Collins’ inclusion is a significant development in the ongoing quarterback competition between him and Steve Angeli. While no starter has been officially named, his selection may hint at who will take the field first on August 30.

EA Sports College Football ’26 Rankings
In the latest EA Sports College Football video game, Syracuse is rated 81 overall on both offense and defense. Their top-rated players include free safety Devin Grant (85), strong safety Duce Chestnut (84), and tight end Dan Villari (83).
