As the Atlanta Braves’ playoff chances continue to dwindle, numerous star players are expected to draw interest ahead of the trade deadline.
While key names like Ronald Acuña Jr., Chris Sale, Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, Sean Murphy, and Matt Olson are all signed beyond this season and could be valuable assets for contending teams, the Braves reportedly have no plans to initiate a rebuild by dealing them for future prospects—at least not right now, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
“Atlanta is open to moving designated hitter Marcell Ozuna, reliever Raisel Iglesias, and a few others at the deadline, but has no intention of trading players with multi-year contracts until at least the offseason,” Nightengale reported.
Chris Sale remains on the injured list and holds a club option for next season, but President of Baseball Operations Alex Anthopoulos has already made it clear the Braves have no plans to trade him. The organization has also reportedly dismissed any possibility of dealing Ronald Acuña Jr.
Ozzie Albies, Matt Olson, Sean Murphy, and Austin Riley are all signed through multiple seasons and have All-Star credentials, making them attractive targets for playoff contenders. Still, the Braves have consistently stated they won’t let a disappointing season push them into dismantling their core.
This could simply be a rough year, and the team may rebound in 2026. However, by refusing to consider offers for players with shorter-term control, Atlanta may be risking further challenges down the road.
