Charlotte Hornets Officially Sign Veteran NBA Guard Spencer Dinwiddie
The Charlotte Hornets have officially added veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie to their roster.
Dinwiddie, who has been a steady contributor over his 11 seasons in the NBA, finished the 2024-25 season with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 11.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. He shot 41.6% from the field and 33.4% from beyond the arc in 79 games.
On Sunday, the Hornets confirmed the signing of Dinwiddie.
According to Hornets PR, “Jeff Peterson, President of Basketball Operations for the Charlotte Hornets, announced today that the team has signed free-agent guard Spencer Dinwiddie. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, in accordance with team policy.”
Dinwiddie, selected 38th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft out of Colorado, has played for multiple teams throughout his career, including the Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Lakers.
Throughout his 621-game career, Dinwiddie holds averages of 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, shooting 41.4% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range.
His addition brings a wealth of experience to the Hornets, a franchise that has not made the playoffs since the 2016 season. Notably, Dinwiddie played a key role in helping the Mavericks reach the Western Conference Finals in 2022.
As reported by Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer on July 12, “Spencer Dinwiddie and Josh Green were seen together, with Green still recovering in Vegas, his left arm in a sling.”
The Hornets, who finished the 2024-25 season with a 19-63 record, missed both the playoffs and the play-in tournament, finishing 14th in the Eastern Conference.
