Kirk Herbstreit Hops on WVU Bandwagon, Wants GameDay to Go to the Backyard Brawl
Kirk Herbstreit Jumps on the WVU Bandwagon, Pushes for GameDay at the Backyard Brawl
The ESPN college football analyst is sold on what’s happening in Morgantown.
While many national analysts are skeptical about West Virginia’s 2025 season, mainly due to the uncertainty surrounding a roster filled with over 70 newcomers and a new coaching staff, Kirk Herbstreit isn’t one of them.
To be fair, he didn’t explicitly say he was backing the Mountaineers for 2025, but he made it clear he’s a fan of Rich Rodriguez.
“It’s a new era in Morgantown, and I’m officially jumping on the bandwagon. Because of Rich Rod, I’m all in,” he shared on the Pat McAfee Show. “I love the way he talks, the attitude he brings – it’s about getting back to work, grinding it out. These guys probably don’t even realize what’s coming their way.”
Though Herbstreit often teases McAfee on College GameDay for mentioning WVU, this time it was clear he genuinely believes in the team’s potential.
When discussing the schedule, Herbstreit remarked, “Can we go to that?” when the Backyard Brawl came up. “Can GameDay make it there? We’ve got to get back to Morgantown.”
