Atlanta Hawks Reportedly Sign Elite Three-Point Shooter Caleb Houstan
The Atlanta Hawks continue to bolster their roster, with reports from Michael Scotto at Hoopshype revealing that former Orlando Magic forward Caleb Houstan has agreed to a one-year deal with the team.
This move makes perfect sense for the Hawks, who were in need of another small forward. They have been actively seeking more shooting this offseason, which is evident from their acquisitions of Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Kristaps Porzingis, and Luke Kennard.
Houstan, who has played three seasons with the Orlando Magic, is known for his exceptional shooting ability. Over his career, he boasts a 39.1% shooting percentage from beyond the arc on nearly three attempts per game. While his shooting is his standout skill, Houstan is not particularly strong in other areas like defense, playmaking, or rebounding, and he doesn’t frequently get to the free-throw line. Still, this signing adds valuable depth and should integrate well into the team. Hawks GM Onsi Saleh has had an impressive offseason, and this move adds to their hopes of being a top contender in the Eastern Conference.
The Hawks have arguably had the most successful offseason of any NBA team this year.
Their journey began with a major three-team trade that brought Kristaps Porzingis to Atlanta, followed by a strong free-agent period. They secured one of the top available free agents, signing former Timberwolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker to a four-year, $62 million deal. In addition, sharpshooter Luke Kennard joined on a one-year, $11 million contract.
However, the Hawks’ most significant move came on draft night. After trading the No. 22 pick in the Kristaps Porzingis deal, they were left with the No. 13 pick but opted to trade back to No. 23 in a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. In exchange, they acquired an unprotected 2026 first-round pick, which will be the most favorable between New Orleans and Milwaukee. That pick could end up being a high lottery selection.
This offseason has definitely been a strong one for the Hawks!
