Cleveland Guardians’ All-Star Outfielder at the Center of Trade Talks: Major Update

Steven Kwan, the Cleveland Guardians’ All-Star outfielder, has found himself at the heart of trade rumors in recent weeks, especially as the team’s struggles have left them with a 46-49 record heading into the MLB trade deadline.

Kwan, a two-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winner, has earned significant admiration from Cleveland fans, making the idea of trading the 27-year-old outfielder a tough pill to swallow for many.

Ken Carman of 92.3 The Fan voiced the prevailing sentiment among Guardians supporters this week, urging the team to lock Kwan up with a contract extension rather than trade him away.

You don't trade Steven Kwan. You extend Steven Kwan.

However, that stance doesn’t exactly align with how the Guardians typically operate. While they did extend José Ramírez, it’s important to note that Ramírez took a massive hometown discount to stay in Cleveland. With Kwan under team control through 2027, there’s no guarantee he’d offer the same willingness to sign a similar deal.

In fact, some might argue that it could be in the Guardians’ best interest to trade Kwan now while his value is at its peak, given his remaining years of control.

Currently, Kwan is batting .285 with a .345 on-base percentage, six home runs, and 32 RBIs in 404 plate appearances this season. His career slash line stands at .285/.357/.396, making his 2025 performance right in line with his established numbers.

While Kwan is undoubtedly a solid player, he isn’t a superstar, which makes it entirely possible that Cleveland will entertain trade offers for him leading up to the July 31 deadline.
