BREAKING: Bulls-Warriors Wild Trade Chatter Has Picked Up

The situation surrounding Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors is becoming increasingly complicated as the offseason unfolds, with both sides stuck in a standstill.

Kuminga, a player with undeniable physical potential, has become a polarizing figure due to his limited playing time and inconsistent opportunities. Despite only appearing in 47 games during the 2024-2025 season, he averaged 15.3 points per game, though he shot just 45.4% from the field and 30.5% from beyond the arc.

In the playoffs, Kuminga maintained his scoring average of 15.3 points per game, but his performance took a notable leap when Stephen Curry was sidelined for the entirety of the 2025 Conference Semifinals. Over the final three games of the series, Kuminga averaged more than 20 points per game, including a standout 30-point game in Game 3.

This kind of production in an expanded role has made Kuminga an intriguing candidate for a sign-and-trade, especially with the Chicago Bulls, according to a new report by ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel.

Siegel outlined the current state of the Kuminga situation, noting that Kuminga’s camp is seeking a major deal in the $30 million range, while the Warriors are hoping for a smaller contract in the $20 million range, leaving the two sides at an impasse. However, Golden State is still holding out hope that a sign-and-trade with the Bulls could come to fruition, with Ayo Dosunmu seen as a potential target for the Warriors.

“Kuminga’s camp wants a deal worth over $30M, and they’re not eager to return to the Warriors. Golden State is aiming for a smaller deal in the $20M range, hoping to flip him, but there’s limited market interest. They still hope a sign-and-trade with the Bulls could happen, and Ayo Dosunmu is a player they like,” Siegel reported.

A trade involving Kuminga and Dosunmu would be complex under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Kuminga is a restricted free agent, and with his camp seeking an annual salary in the $25-$30 million range, the Warriors would need to match 50% of that value in trade compensation due to the “Base Year Compensation” rule.

For example, if Kuminga were to sign a deal worth $25 million per year, his outgoing salary for trade purposes would need to be $12.5 million, making a trade more difficult to structure.

A potential mock trade for the two players could look like this:

Warriors Receive: Ayo Dosunmu ($7,518,518), Julian Phillips ($2,221,677)
Bulls Receive: Jonathan Kuminga (signed to a 4-year, $100M contract with a first-year salary of $22.5M, making his outgoing salary $11.25M under the Base Year Compensation rule)

This trade could benefit both teams: the Bulls would gain a young, athletic wing prospect in Kuminga, while the Warriors would bolster their depth with two young wings in Dosunmu and Phillips.
