Giants’ Struggles in Key Area Are Major Factor Behind Offensive Woes

The San Francisco Giants’ inability to consistently score runs has been an ongoing issue throughout the season, and it has carried over into the second half of the campaign.

This frustrating lack of consistency at the plate has been a mystery that no one within the organization seems to have been able to solve, despite a pitching staff that has remained elite. Changes like altering the lineup, calling up fresh talent, and even trading for one of the best sluggers in the game have done little to spark the offense.

One of the most glaring issues has been the Giants’ failure to hit with runners in scoring position (RISP). Currently, the team boasts a mere .234 batting average and an OPS of just .707 in these situations—both of which rank among the worst in MLB.

What makes this issue even more frustrating is the Giants’ tendency to falter in key moments. Whenever they have the chance to score and build some momentum, they often find ways to shoot themselves in the foot, whether it’s through strikeouts or grounding into double plays.

Adding further frustration is the fact that team head Buster Posey made addressing this problem a top priority last winter. In 2024, San Francisco’s biggest offensive downfall was their inability to capitalize on big opportunities to advance runners and score. The fact that this issue remains unresolved has been incredibly disheartening for everyone involved.

It remains to be seen whether the Giants can finally figure out how to fix this major flaw, but if they don’t, it could cost them significantly as the season progresses.
