Pistons Lose Veteran Lindy Waters to San Antonio Spurs in Free Agency

After spending much of the offseason on the NBA free agency market, Lindy Waters III has found a new home with the San Antonio Spurs, officially ending his time with the Detroit Pistons.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Waters has signed a one-year contract with the Spurs.

Waters entered the NBA after a successful four-year career at Oklahoma State, where he played in 121 games and made 105 starts. Over the course of his college career, he averaged 10 points, 2 assists, and 4 rebounds per game, shooting 43 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc.

Though Waters went undrafted in 2020, he continued to pursue his professional career and spent time in the G League before signing a two-way contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2021. A year later, he secured a standard deal with the Thunder.

Last summer, Waters was traded to the Golden State Warriors but would later find himself traded again, this time to the Pistons ahead of the 2024 trade deadline as part of the five-team deal involving Jimmy Butler.

In his four years in the NBA, Waters has averaged 5 points and 2 rebounds per game while shooting 40 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range. During his brief stint with the Pistons, Waters played in 14 games, averaging 3 points and 1 rebound while shooting 36 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.
