South Carolina Scores Big with Three-Star CB Commitment
South Carolina Secures Three-Star CB Kosci Barnes
The South Carolina Gamecocks continue to make waves on the recruiting front, securing a commitment from three-star cornerback Kosci Barnes.
Barnes’ recruitment story is a bit unique, as his rise through the ranks came later than most. After a strong junior season, he gained more attention during the spring and summer. Before attracting offers from Power Five schools, Barnes had commitments from teams like Appalachian State, Eastern Kentucky, Liberty, and Marshall. However, South Carolina extended an offer on April 17th, and after hosting Barnes for an official visit from June 6th-8th, they maintained consistent recruitment efforts to land him.
During his junior season, Barnes totaled 59 tackles, six tackles for loss, five pass deflections, three interceptions, and a forced fumble. One of his standout performances came early in the season against Rolesville (NC), where he recorded a season-high 10 tackles and an interception.
Barnes also helped lead the Grimsley Whirlies to a perfect 16-0 record, including a state championship victory over Rolesville. In the championship game, he posted three tackles. His impressive play earned him a second-team all-state selection and a first-team all-conference nod.
South Carolina’s recruiting momentum continues to build, following last weekend’s commitment from highly sought-after quarterback Landon Duckworth. With Barnes on board, the Gamecocks now have 14 commitments for the 2026 class, with Barnes being the fourth defensive back to commit.
