Purdue’s Braden Smith and Omer Mayer Earn Spot at Elite Guard Camp
Purdue guards Braden Smith and Omer Mayer have been selected as two of the 12 college athletes invited to attend Chris Paul’s prestigious Elite Guard Camp. The camp, set for July 29 to August 1 in Las Vegas, will give these rising stars the opportunity to refine their basketball skills under the guidance of NBA legend Chris Paul.
The Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp offers some of the nation’s top college guards a chance to receive elite training from the 20-year NBA veteran and 12-time All-Star. The camp also helps prepare these players for the challenges they might face on the path to professional basketball.
Purdue’s social media team shared the announcement on Monday.
Braden Smith comes off a standout 2024-25 season, where he averaged 15.8 points, 8.7 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game for the Boilermakers. His exceptional performance earned him Big Ten Player of the Year honors and the Bob Cousy Award, given to the top point guard in the nation. Heading into the 2025-26 season, Smith is a strong contender for the National Player of the Year award.
Omer Mayer, a four-star recruit and top-50 prospect in the 2025 class, will begin his first year at Purdue this season. Originally from Israel, Mayer had an impressive summer, participating in two FIBA events. In the FIBA U19 World Cup, he averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, helping Israel finish with a 4-2 record despite missing two games due to injury. Mayer also competed in FIBA U20 EuroBasket, where he averaged 16.7 points (sixth in EuroBasket) and 5.1 assists (fifth in EuroBasket) per game.
Both Smith and Mayer are expected to play significant roles for Purdue this upcoming season.
