Just a day after leading Marshall to its first Sun Belt title, Charles Huff has been named the new head coach of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

Marshall and Huff did not reach a contract extension before the conclusion of his four-year deal on Saturday. During his tenure in Huntington, Huff compiled a 32-20 record, with each of those seasons resulting in bowl eligibility for the Thundering Herd.

He succeeds Will Hall in Hattiesburg, who was dismissed midway through the season.

“My family and I are thrilled to begin our journey in Hattiesburg and continue the rich tradition of Southern Miss football,” Huff stated in a release from the university.

“Our aim is to develop a program that can compete at the highest level and allow our fan base to enjoy a return to bowl games on a consistent basis. I want to express my gratitude to Southern Miss President Dr. Joe Paul and Athletics Director Jeremy McClain for their trust in me and my staff with this incredible opportunity. I’m eager to get started and make this program something we can all take pride in.”

Huff will be officially introduced on Thursday, December 12, at 1 PM CT.
