Seattle Mariners Receive Unfortunate News
Seattle Mariners to Place Luke Raley on Injured List, Call Up Tyler Locklear
Outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley will be placed on the injured list due to a back issue, making room for Tyler Locklear, who will get another shot with the major league roster.
After months of fan demand, the Seattle Mariners are calling up first baseman Tyler Locklear from the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers following his standout season in the Pacific Coast League.
This move comes at the expense of one of the Mariners’ most versatile players. Just before the team’s 6-1 loss to the Athletics on Tuesday, news broke that Locklear would be heading to Sacramento, where the series is being held, and would be activated to the major league roster on Wednesday. After the game, manager Dan Wilson confirmed that Raley, who had been dealing with a back issue, would be placed on the IL, according to MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer.
This will mark Raley’s second stint on the injured list this season. He was sidelined for nearly two months from April 30 to June 20 due to a right oblique strain. Raley hasn’t played since July 24 and has scored 19 runs in 49 games, with six doubles, four home runs, and 18 RBIs. His slash line is .220/.343/.348 with a .691 OPS.
Locklear has been on fire for the Rainiers this season, playing 98 games and posting impressive stats: 70 runs, 21 doubles, a triple, 19 home runs, and 82 RBIs. He has a slash line of .316/.401/.542 with a .943 OPS and has stolen 18 bases. His RBIs rank second, and his home runs are tied for fourth in the Pacific Coast League. All of his major offensive stats represent career highs.
Locklear got a brief taste of major league action in 2024, appearing in 16 games, where he scored three runs, hit a double and two home runs, and drove in three RBIs. He slashed .156/.224/.311 with a .535 OPS.
With a current record of 57-51, the Mariners will look to Locklear to bring some energy as they continue their season. First pitch for Wednesday’s game is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
