Four Dayton Players Named to Preseason All-PFL Team

Dayton had four student-athletes recognized on the 2025 Preseason All-Pioneer Football League (PFL) teams, with three on the offensive roster and one on defense.

Junior Mason Hackett, junior Gavin Lochow, and graduate student Ryan Iiams earned spots on the offensive team, while redshirt junior Cam Cope was selected for the defensive team. Dayton tied with Presbyterian and Davidson for the most players on the offensive team, each having three honorees. Overall, Presbyterian led all teams with six total selections, followed by San Diego with five, and Dayton and Marist with four.

Hackett, who was named to the Second Team All-PFL last season, had a standout year in 2024 with 806 rushing yards on 185 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per attempt. He also scored four touchdowns and had three 100-yard games.

Lochow also earned Second Team All-PFL honors last season and was recognized as a First Team Academic All-PFL and Academic All-District selection. In 2024, he caught 59 passes for 488 yards and five touchdowns over 11 games.

Iiams, entering his third season at Dayton, will serve as a team captain in 2025. He started all 11 games last season and received PFL Honorable Mention honors in each of the past two years. He also won the Mike Kelly/Rick Chamberlin Mental Toughness Award in 2024.

Cope, who will also be a co-captain this season, started all 10 games in 2024 and was named to the Honorable Mention All-PFL team. The Cincinnati native led Dayton with six passes batted down and earned a spot on the Academic Honor Roll.

The 2025 season for Dayton begins on August 28 at Eastern Illinois, with their PFL opener on September 27 at home against Stetson. The Flyers were recently predicted to finish fifth in the PFL preseason poll, behind favorites San Diego, Drake, and St. Thomas.
