Dave Canales Reflects on Panthers’ First-Team Offense and Upcoming Plans
The Carolina Panthers’ first-team offense played a key role in the team’s preseason debut against the Cleveland Browns, accounting for 70% of the team’s points. Though they only played two series, they left the field with a 7-0 lead, which eventually turned into a 30-7 loss.
The offense had a mixed performance. Their first drive ended in a punt, which wasn’t ideal, but the second drive saw better results. After the game, Panthers coach Dave Canales shared his thoughts on the performance and what he has planned for the next outing. 
On the Panthers’ Starting Offense:
As planned, the Panthers only had their offensive starters play two series. During that time, Bryce Young threw a touchdown to Jalen Coker and connected with Tetairoa McMillan for a 43-yard gain.
Canales said, “Overall, I thought it went well. We took advantage of some favorable matchups, and some guys made plays down the field. Tmac had a nice catch, and Jalen Coker stepped up big when Xavier [Legette] went out.”
Despite the rough first drive, Canales noted the offense settled into a better rhythm on the second. He was pleased with what he saw, though limited, and mentioned that he might have the starters play for three series in the upcoming game against Houston.
This game is likely to be the final preseason outing for the first-team offense. Canales had planned to play them during the first two weeks, so the game against Houston—whether it’s two or three series—will likely be their last before the regular season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
