Kevin Durant Trolls Thunder Fans Ahead of Rockets-Thunder Opener
Kevin Durant is known for being one of the most accessible superstars on social media, engaging with fans regularly on his platforms. Unlike most athletes, who often stay away from social media during their playing careers, Durant has maintained an active presence and is willing to respond to both fans and critics alike.
What truly sets Durant apart, however, is his willingness to troll back. Not only does he engage with internet trolls, but he’s also been known to throw some playful jabs during live games — adding a layer of entertainment to the fan experience. After all, fans pay to see the action, and a little bit of back-and-forth with the players only makes it more memorable.
The latest instance of Durant’s trolling came on Sunday when a user on X (formerly Twitter) tried to get under his skin about the Oklahoma City Thunder — the team that drafted him — possibly winning their first title and facing the Houston Rockets on opening night.
The user posted: “Where will your mental be opening night when you watch the team that gave you everything raise a banner after you left them high and dry?”
Durant’s response, however, was more playful than bitter: “Finally. It’s been 10 years. Bout time they win one lmaooo.”
This was clearly just some lighthearted humor. Durant isn’t likely upset about the Thunder winning a title, especially given his two championships with the Warriors (and two Finals MVPs) after leaving Oklahoma City. Plus, he took the Thunder to their first-ever NBA Finals appearance.
But Durant’s next reply made it clear he was having fun with the troll: “My god, talk a little shit back. It’s not that serious.”
Earlier in the week, the NBA had announced the Rockets-Thunder matchup for opening day, which will be broadcast by NBC under a new 11-year agreement starting in the 2025-26 season. The revamped Rockets, with Durant on the roster, could be one of the biggest threats to Oklahoma City’s hopes of repeating as champions.
With Durant’s playful comments, it’s safe to say he’s given the Thunder some serious bulletin board material ahead of their opening-night clash.
