While technically not a true road game, this matchup is significant due to the long 6.5-hour drive and the high-stakes nature of the game. It’s a great early test for both Virginia Tech and South Carolina to gauge their seasons, and with Mercedes-Benz Stadium holding 71,000 fans, the crowd should be loud and energetic despite the likelihood of not being a sellout. The uncertainty around both teams’ performances adds to the intrigue of this season opener. Notably, the Hokies only face four true road games this year, including a short trip to Charlottesville to play Virginia in November.

The Wolfpack, often ranked near Virginia Tech in preseason polls, will provide a direct comparison for where the Hokies stand in their bid to return to prominence.
