Former Chargers TE McCallan Castles Joins Rams in Free Agency

After being released by the Los Angeles Chargers last week, tight end McCallan Castles has signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

In a classic case of one team’s loss being another’s gain, Castles was let go by the Chargers on August 6, following a crowded tight end room bolstered by new signings like Will Dissly (Seattle Seahawks), Tyler Conklin (New York Jets), and rookie Oronde Gadsden II. Less than a week later, he was picked up by the Rams on Monday.

Castles, who went undrafted out of Tennessee in 2024, initially signed with the Philadelphia Eagles before joining the Chargers’ practice squad last October. He later re-signed a reserve/future contract with the team in January.

The Rams are in need of tight end depth after losing Anthony Torres to injury during their preseason opener. To make room for Castles on the roster, they waived Torres with an injury designation.

Through two preseason games, the Rams have been utilizing their tight ends heavily. Dissly scored a touchdown in the Hall of Fame Game against the Detroit Lions, and Gadsden added two catches for 15 yards in a win over the New Orleans Saints. Conklin, however, has yet to record a catch on his single target this preseason.
