Massive Dilemma for Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals Considering Trade Offers for Trey Hendrickson as Regular Season Approaches
CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bengals are reportedly open to trade offers for star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Hendrickson, who led the NFL with 17.5 sacks last season, is entering the final year of his contract and is seeking a new deal. He missed the first five days of training camp but eventually reported to the team.
Scheduled to earn a $15.8 million base salary in 2025, Hendrickson has expressed his desire for a new contract. “It’s something we’re all aiming for, not just me but ownership too. Our goal is to avoid playing out this current deal,” Hendrickson said last month. “We’re all on the same page moving forward. No distractions. I’m excited to be here, and I love the brotherhood in this team.”
What Are the Bengals Seeking in a Trade?
According to Rapoport, the Bengals are taking trade offers seriously, but they’re not going to make a move unless the return is substantial. “They’ve always done their homework, but now timing is crucial,” Rapoport tweeted. “Any trade will likely require a young player and a future draft pick. It’s going to be tricky, especially since the Bengals are in playoff contention.”
Despite the trade rumors, Hendrickson has made it clear he wants to stay in Cincinnati and isn’t concerned about missing camp. With the regular season starting in just a few weeks, the Bengals are seriously considering their options.
A Change in Approach
Earlier this offseason, Bengals owner Mike Brown expressed confidence in the team’s ability to reach a long-term deal with Hendrickson. “We’re not looking to trade Trey. We’re working hard to get him re-signed right now,” Brown stated. “Our team is in the office making that happen, and I’m optimistic it will get done.”
However, guaranteed money has been a major sticking point in the negotiations, and it seems the Bengals may have reconsidered their stance. Now, they are reportedly willing to entertain trade offers for their star pass rusher.
