The Pittsburgh Steelers are bolstering their secondary ahead of their final preseason matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night by signing former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Kam Alexander. As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the undrafted rookie was recently waived by Seattle after joining them on July 21.
During his short stint with the Seahawks, Alexander played just seven snaps in their preseason opener versus the Las Vegas Raiders. According to Pro Football Focus, he received a defensive grade of 25.8 after giving up a 41-yard touchdown to Shedrick Jackson.
With final roster cuts looming on August 26, Alexander has limited time to make an impression in Pittsburgh. While a spot on the 53-man roster is a long shot, he may be considered for the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Alexander began his college career at Sam Houston State in 2019, back when the school was still an FCS program. He gradually increased his contributions over the years, including playing a role in their 2020 FCS National Championship run. In his final season with the Bearkats in 2022, he notched 14 tackles and an interception in four games before transferring to UTSA for the 2023 season. There, he was named first-team All-AAC and earned Frisco Bowl MVP honors after tallying 34 tackles and two interceptions.
He concluded his college journey at Oregon, where he played in 12 games and recorded four tackles and an interception. With the Steelers, he’ll reunite with his former Oregon teammate and Pittsburgh’s first-round pick, Derrick Harmon.
