Rams Make Unexpected Roster Moves Amid Injury Setbacks

The Los Angeles Rams had to make several tough roster changes on Tuesday due to injury issues.

The team placed outside linebacker Keir Thomas on injured reserve. The Florida State product had been performing well during training camp, impressing alongside his Seminole teammates in Los Angeles. After a strong camp, Thomas will now miss some time, though it’s uncertain when or if he will return.

Rams head coach Sean McVay had praised Thomas’ performance during camp, noting his versatility. “He’s done a really good job, and it’s not just in coverage,” McVay said. “That was a great play he made. Keir’s had a really good camp. Joe [Coniglio, outside linebackers coach] does such a great job with the whole group. I’ve been really pleased with all of them. Keir’s been with us for a while, and he’s getting better and better. He really stands out on early downs, and his teammates are always excited for him when he makes plays. He’s a Ram through and through. I really like what he’s doing.”

In other news, wide receiver Mario Williams caught a key touchdown pass from quarterback Stetson Bennett in Saturday night’s game. However, he was waived on Tuesday with an injury designation. Williams, along with teammates Brennan Presley and Tru Edwards, provided Bennett with solid options in the second half against the Chargers. Bennett, who connected with Williams for a touchdown at the end of the third quarter, spoke about the play: “Oh, on the touchdown—that was sweet. We had seen a look like that in practice, and [he] stepped up, great protection, ran a great route. The safety was a little late to react, and I just got the ball up and down. That was a fun one.”

Bennett’s sharp throw and Williams’ speed into open space were key to the touchdown. Williams’ burst and confidence, especially in special teams play, remind many of Xavier Smith’s similar trajectory.

Due to these changes, the Rams have signed offensive lineman Mike McAllister to the active roster. McAllister, a 2023 undrafted free agent from Youngstown State, has been with the Rams’ practice squad for the past two seasons.
