Rams Lose Keir Thomas for Entire 2025 Season

The Los Angeles Rams have confirmed that outside linebacker Keir Thomas will miss the entire 2025 season due to injury. Head coach Sean McVay announced on Saturday that Thomas, who had been showing promise during training camp and the preseason, has been placed on injured reserve. McVay also indicated that Thomas will not be designated for return at any point during the season, according to Rams.com’s Stu Jackson.

Thomas’ Impact During Training Camp

McVay had previously spoken highly of Thomas’ performance during camp. “He’s done a really good job, and it’s not just about coverage. That was a great play he made. Keir’s had a strong camp, and [outside linebackers coach] Joe [Coniglio] has done a great job with the whole outside linebacker room,” McVay noted. “Keir’s presence was felt on early downs, and it’s clear his teammates get excited when he makes plays like that. He’s a Ram through and through, and I’m really pleased with his development.”

Thomas had been earning increasing trust from the coaching staff, playing a key rotational role to give starters like Jared Verse and Byron Young some rest. His injury is a significant setback for the Rams’ depth at outside linebacker.

What’s Next for the Rams?

With Thomas sidelined, the Rams made the decision to sit Nick Hampton in their most recent game. Josaiah Stewart, who has impressed since recovering from an offseason injury, is likely to secure a roster spot, while Brennan Jackson is making a strong push to maintain his place as well.

The Rams will finalize their 53-man roster on Tuesday, which will give more clarity on their roster decisions moving forward.

Stewart’s Progress

Stewart, who has been steadily progressing after an injury during OTAs, has caught up with the team’s playbook and is increasingly making his presence felt on the field. Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula praised Stewart’s development: “He’s been great. Joe Coniglio, Giff Smith, and Drew Wilkins have all done a fantastic job with him. He missed some time early on due to a hamstring issue, but since then, he’s really started to pick things up.”

As the season approaches, Stewart appears poised to take on a bigger role for the Rams, especially with Thomas’ absence.

Rams HC Sean McVay on the team's preseason broadcast confirmed OLB Keir Thomas will miss the season. He's on Injured Reserve right now, but that indicates he likely won't be designated to return at any point.
