Utah Jazz Officially Sign Second-Round Pick John Tonje
The Utah Jazz have finalized their third and final two-way contract for the upcoming season, officially signing second-round pick John Tonje.
According to the NBA’s transaction log, the Jazz have signed Tonje—selected 53rd overall in the 2025 NBA Draft—to a two-way deal, completing their signings for this year’s rookie class. He joins Elijah Harkless and Oscar Tshiebwe, who had already secured their two-way contracts earlier this offseason.
Tonje brings a wealth of college experience, having played six seasons. He spent four years at Colorado State, a brief eight-game stint at Missouri (cut short by injury), and wrapped up his college career with Wisconsin. In his final year with the Badgers, the 6-foot-5 wing averaged 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 46.5% from the field and 38.8% from beyond the arc, earning him Second-Team All-America honors.
Due to an ankle injury, Tonje missed the Jazz’s first three Summer League games in Salt Lake City but returned for two games in Las Vegas. There, he averaged 10.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 33.3% from the floor.
Looking ahead to his rookie season, Tonje is expected to split time between the Jazz and their G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars. As he develops, more NBA opportunities could open up, especially later in the season.
With Tonje’s signing, Utah’s roster now sits at 19 players — 16 on standard contracts and three on two-way deals — one above the NBA’s 15-player limit for standard contracts. Veteran forward Kevin Love is the likely odd man out, as buyout speculation continues ahead of the 2025–26 season, though he remains on the roster for now with less than two months until opening night.
As for Tonje, he’s officially signed and ready to begin his NBA journey with the Jazz.
