South Carolina’s Nyck Harbor Raves About RB Rahsul Faison Ahead of Virginia Tech Showdown
With the season opener against Virginia Tech just three days away, South Carolina is gearing up with high expectations — especially on the offensive side of the ball. Wide receiver Nyck Harbor is one of the standout leaders, and he’s especially excited about what new running back Rahsul Faison brings to the table.
Harbor spoke glowingly about Faison, a transfer from Utah State, and what it means to finally have him fully cleared and ready to contribute.
“Man, it’s huge having No. 1 out there full-time,” Harbor said. “There was a point where we weren’t sure if he’d be with us or not. But now that he’s in — he’s a game-changer. Coach Furrey and I watched his highlights after he got cleared, and we both agreed — that guy can play.”
Harbor expressed pride in Faison’s perseverance, referencing the challenges the running back overcame to get to this point.
“I’m proud he’s one of our guys. I’m going to block my butt off for him. He stayed grounded, kept faith through everything, and it worked out.”
Asked again about Faison’s impact, Harbor emphasized the running back’s football IQ and aggressive playing style.
“He’s been doing this a long time. He reads the field well and hits the hole with purpose,” Harbor explained. “He’s not chaotic — he runs with control and vision. As a blocker, it’s easier for me when the running back is decisive like that. He’s not just trying to dance around — he’s trying to get upfield and score.”
Harbor also highlighted the mutual trust between offensive players, noting that he’s committed to blocking hard for Faison and the rest of the backfield — just as he expects them to protect him in passing situations.
“My job is to be a shield and let him run off of me. That’s the least I can do,” Harbor said. “When it’s time to pass, I expect them to give their all in protection, so I’m doing the same when we run.”
Faison arrives at South Carolina after a breakout season at Utah State, where he ran for 1,109 yards and scored eight touchdowns. One of his most dominant performances came against Hawaii, when he rushed for 191 yards and two scores in a 55–10 win. Now with the Gamecocks, Faison gives the offense a powerful new weapon for the 2025 campaign.
