Thunder Restructure Coaching Staff Ahead of 2025-26 Season

With training camp just a month away, the Oklahoma City Thunder have made notable adjustments to their coaching staff. The team announced that former OKC Blue head coach Kameron Woods has been promoted to join Mark Daigneault’s staff with the Thunder, while Daniel Dixon will step into the head coaching role for the Blue.

Woods returns to the Thunder’s bench after leading the OKC Blue to their first-ever G League championship. Previously, he served on Daigneault’s staff before taking over as the Blue’s head coach in 2022. Widely regarded as one of the premier defensive development coaches in basketball, Woods has earned high praise from both Thunder and Blue players for his coaching acumen.

Dixon, now the new head coach of the Blue, just wrapped up his first year as a player development assistant for the Thunder after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant with the Blue. He also led the Thunder’s Summer League squads—coaching in Salt Lake City in 2025 and Las Vegas in 2024. Prior to joining the Thunder organization, he served as a video coordinator for the Charlotte Hornets during the 2021–22 season.

Dixon played college basketball at William & Mary, where he became part of the school’s winningest class, amassing 77 victories over four years. As a senior in 2016–17, he earned First Team All-CAA and NABC All-District honors. He ranks third in program history for made three-pointers (241) and 14th in all-time scoring (1,355 points).

Like Woods, Dixon also played in the G League, logging 91 career games (35 starts) with the Maine Red Claws, Windy City Bulls, and Northern Arizona Suns. He averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists over 27.7 minutes per game.

Woods now returns to the NBA sidelines with head coaching experience under his belt and joins a Thunder team widely expected to contend again after capturing the NBA title last season. His upward trajectory and success in player development make him a strong candidate for future head coaching opportunities in the league.

Meanwhile, Dixon becomes the latest in a line of rising coaches to lead the Blue, following in the footsteps of Grant Gibbs (now a Thunder assistant) and Woods himself. The Blue will continue to serve as a key developmental pipeline, likely featuring young talents such as Brooks Barnhizer, Branden Carlson, Thomas Sorber, Ousmane Dieng, Nikola Topić, and others.

Both the Thunder and the Blue are set to be exciting teams to watch this season—one chasing a title defense, the other shaping the stars of tomorrow.
