Titans Turn Offensive Line from Liability to Asset
The Tennessee Titans appear to have made significant strides in fixing a key weakness from last season: their offensive line. 
After fielding one of the league’s worst offensive fronts last year, the Titans are entering this season with a more optimistic perspective. Offseason investments in the line could change the entire dynamic of their offense.
“General manager Mike Borgonzi prioritized upgrading the trenches, resulting in key additions across the line. Tennessee signed Dan Moore Jr. to handle left tackle duties and shifted first-round rookie JC Latham to right tackle. Veteran guard Kevin Zeitler joins the interior next to Latham, bolstering protection. The unit now includes two recent first-round picks — Latham and Peter Skoronski — along with high-priced free-agent center Lloyd Cushenberry III and the reliable Zeitler,” reported ESPN’s Turron Davenport.
Previously, the Titans struggled with consistency on the right side of the line, but the additions of Latham and Zeitler should solidify that area. This improved protection will be crucial for rookie quarterback Cam Ward, giving him more time in the pocket and reducing the need for improvisation under pressure.
However, the left tackle spot remains a potential concern. Though Moore was signed to a four-year deal, his performance with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season was shaky — allowing 12 sacks while protecting Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. The Titans hope his experience (four years as a starter) will help him rebound and anchor the left side, but if those protection issues persist, the team could find themselves scrambling again.
Still, it’s hard to imagine the line being worse than last year’s dismal showing. Even modest improvement would mark a step forward, and the Titans seem poised to move in the right direction.
Tennessee opens its season against the Denver Broncos this Sunday at 3:05 p.m. CT at Empower Field at Mile High.
