WASHINGTON – Georgetown football dropped a hard-fought 42-37 decision to Patriot League rival Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field. The Hoyas move to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.

“That was a great way to start the Patriot League schedule. It was a competitive, back-and-forth game against a talented Lafayette team. We didn’t play to our full potential for the entire game, but I’m extremely proud of how our guys battled after falling behind early. We’ll look to make improvements as we prepare for back-to-back Ivy League matchups.”

How It Happened
Georgetown struck first on a 19-yard touchdown grab by Grimes, but Lafayette answered with a 70-yard run from Kente Edwards to knot the score at 7-7 after one quarter.
The Leopards surged ahead in the second with back-to-back touchdowns for a 21-7 advantage. The Hoyas roared back as Mose returned a fumble 90 yards for a score and Hart added a one-yard touchdown run to even the game 21-21 at halftime.
After a Thomas Anderson field goal gave Georgetown a brief third-quarter lead, the teams traded touchdowns. Hart’s second rushing score sent the Hoyas into the fourth quarter up 31-28.
Lafayette regained control behind Edwards, who finished with three rushing touchdowns, including a decisive 51-yarder to put the Leopards ahead 42-31. Grimes pulled the Hoyas within five with a late 10-yard touchdown reception, but the rally fell short.

Georgetown travels to Providence, R.I., next Saturday to face Brown. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on September 13.
