Steelers Lose Starting LB to Injury in Week 2

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense took a hit early in their Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks, losing inside linebacker Patrick Queen to injury before halftime.

Queen entered the blue medical tent after a second-quarter drive by the Seahawks that ended in a punt. He spent several minutes being evaluated by the training staff, and after a lengthy assessment, the team announced he was questionable to return due to a rib injury.

With Queen sidelined, the Steelers turned to Payton Wilson and Cole Holcomb to fill the inside linebacker spots. Wilson had been starting, but Holcomb had not played any snaps in the team’s Week 1 victory over the New York Jets.

Just after Queen’s injury, Wilson also left the field after vomiting, looking visibly unwell. The team took him to the medical tent, further depleting their linebacker depth.

With both Queen and Wilson out, Holcomb and rookie Carson Bruener are the only remaining inside linebackers from the active roster. Bruener, a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, made the roster over Mark Robinson. Additionally, the Steelers called up Jon Rhattigan from the practice squad for Week 2 following Malik Harrison’s placement on injured reserve with a knee injury in Week 1.

This story is still developing, and Pittsburgh Steelers On SI will provide updates as more information on Queen’s and Wilson’s injuries becomes available.
