Myles Garrett Lashes Out After Tough Loss to Ravens
Myles Garrett was visibly frustrated following the Cleveland Browns’ tough loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The defensive star expected a much stronger showing from his team, but instead, the Browns were dominated in a 41-17 defeat at M&T Bank Stadium.
“Honestly, this is embarrassing,” Garrett said in his postgame interview. “We’ve got to play better on defense, and we’ve got to be better as a team.”
The Browns struggled throughout the entire game, managing only three points by halftime. Despite a bit more production in the second half, adding seven points in each of the third and fourth quarters, they were never really in the contest.
The Ravens, on the other hand, were relentless. While the Browns’ defense held running back Derrick Henry to just 23 yards on 11 carries, the Ravens found success through other means. Led by quarterback Lamar Jackson, they steadily wore down Cleveland’s defense. Jackson threw for 225 yards and four touchdowns, adding 13 rushing yards.
“They slowly chipped away at us,” Garrett reflected. “We did a good job holding them to just three points when we could, but eventually, the floodgates opened. They just did whatever they wanted. We’ve got to play a full 60 minutes.”
Cleveland’s offense couldn’t help their defense. Quarterback Joe Flacco passed for 199 yards and one touchdown, but also threw an interception, was sacked twice, and finished with a passer rating of 65.0. So far in 2025, the Browns’ offense has struggled, turning the ball over four times and scoring just four touchdowns—one of which came from rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Garrett, though, understands the challenges: “We’d love for our offense to score six or seven touchdowns every time they touch the ball, but realistically, that’s not going to happen for any team. So, we’ve got to make up for that where we can. We didn’t take the ball away enough.”
While the Browns’ defense showed strong performance in Week 1, holding the Cincinnati Bengals to just 17 points and locking down quarterback Joe Burrow, they couldn’t replicate that success against Jackson. Garrett himself contributed to the defensive effort with 1.5 sacks and five total tackles, along with five quarterback hits across both games.
Having signed a four-year, $160 million deal this offseason, Garrett’s desire for victory has never been greater. At 29, he’s aware his prime won’t last forever, and winning a Super Bowl is a top priority.
Looking ahead, the Browns will face the 2-0 Green Bay Packers next Sunday, with Garrett looking to bounce back in a tough road environment. With his hunger to win only intensifying, the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year will undoubtedly look to elevate his game even further.
