Wisconsin Badgers CB Nyzier Fourqurean Faces Delays in Legal Battle Over Eligibility
Wisconsin Badgers cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean is ready to hit the field, but he’s waiting on a federal judge to determine if he’ll be allowed to play.
Every time it seems like a decision is imminent, it gets delayed once more.
Currently, Fourqurean is awaiting a ruling on a preliminary injunction filed by his attorney. If granted, the injunction would allow Fourqurean temporary eligibility while his case is pending.
The court session last Friday led to further delays, with the judge issuing new scheduling adjustments.
In the short term, the NCAA has been given until this Friday to finalize its response to the injunction and the expert witness testimony. However, it’s unlikely the judge will have enough time to review the NCAA’s response and issue a ruling before the next game, meaning Fourqurean will remain ineligible for the upcoming Maryland game, marking the fourth game he’s missed awaiting a court decision.
The situation is more likely to be resolved by the time Wisconsin faces Michigan on October 4, after their bye week. If Fourqurean is granted eligibility, that extra time would allow him to prepare. On the other hand, if the judge denies the injunction, Fourqurean will miss the entire season.
This setback is particularly frustrating for Fourqurean, who has had to watch from the sidelines, knowing he could contribute, especially after his fellow cornerbacks struggled against Alabama last week.
If Fourqurean is cleared to play after the bye, it could provide a significant boost to Luke Fickell’s defense.
