Ohio State Extends Offer to Elite Florida State CB Commit Jay Timmons
On June 24, cornerback Lawrence “Jay” Timmons from Pittsburgh Pine-Richland made headlines when he flipped his commitment from Indiana to Florida State. The 5-foot-10.5, 185-pound defensive back, who is the son of former FSU and NFL linebacker Lawrence Timmons, had long been expected to follow in his father’s footsteps and play for the Seminoles. 
However, on Tuesday, Timmons received an exciting new offer—Ohio State entered the race for the rising star. He shared the news on social media, revealing the Buckeyes’ official interest.
Ohio State already has an impressive secondary haul for this recruiting cycle, with three blue-chip defensive backs committed: Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic four-star safety Blaine Bradford, Jacksonville Bolles four-star safety Simeon Caldwell, and Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic four-star cornerback Jordan Thomas.
Timmons’ stock continues to rise, now ranking as the No. 28 overall recruit and No. 2 cornerback in the updated Rivals300. His recruitment picked up steam this summer after a series of offers. Initially, Indiana secured an early commitment from the then-three-star prospect, but Florida State swooped in with an offer in June. Leveraging the family legacy, the Seminoles got Timmons to Tallahassee for an official visit, ultimately flipping him from the Hoosiers.
“I wanted FSU because it’s my dream school, the school I’ve always been a fan of, and it’s where I was born,” Timmons told Warchant after receiving the summer offer. “Having an offer from Florida State is literally a dream come true.”
One of several flips for FSU this cycle, Timmons is one of five defensive backs committed to head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles. The senior has continued to dominate at Pine-Richland, now ranking as the No. 3 recruit in Pennsylvania, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, which aggregates the rankings from all major recruiting services.
Ohio State also extended an offer to Maryland safety commit Khmari Bing on Tuesday night, signaling that the Buckeyes are looking to add more talent to their defensive back class, which currently sits at 21 commits and ranks No. 9 nationally in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Rivals National Scout Cody Bellaire highlighted Timmons’ versatility and skill set, explaining why he’s seen a significant jump in the Rivals300 rankings:
“Timmons is one of the most well-rounded defensive backs in this cycle. He can play in the box, cover in man, and excel in zone coverage. His physicality and finesse make him a true three-dimensional defender. He’s fluid in coverage, stays tight when the ball is in the air, and brings a violent edge to his tackling. His instincts are exceptional—he seems to anticipate plays before they happen. Timmons has one of the most college-ready skill sets of any defensive back in this class.”
