Texas Tech Optimistic About Landing 5-Star Recruit Ahead of October Commitment
The Texas Tech Red Raiders’ 2027 recruiting class is shaping up to be a strong one, with recent commitments adding to the excitement. Defensive lineman K’Adrian Redmond from DeSoto, Texas, became the third commitment for the class, joining top-10 recruits Cooper Hackett (offensive tackle) and LaDamion Guyton (edge rusher).
Adding to the optimism, five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, a junior at Cedar Hill High School in Dallas County, is set to announce his commitment on October 4. There is growing confidence that Brewster, ranked among the nation’s top prospects, may choose Texas Tech.
Recruiting analysts at Rivals have given predictions that Brewster will commit to the Red Raiders, noting that the recruiting momentum for Tech looks favorable. Texas Tech extended an offer to Brewster in May 2024, becoming one of the first major programs to do so. Brewster also holds offers from powerhouses such as LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas A&M, according to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong.
Brewster is expected to visit Lubbock for Texas Tech’s game against Kansas on October 11, should his commitment align with the Red Raiders’ hopes. However, he will first visit College Station this weekend for Texas A&M’s game against Auburn.
The Cedar Hill standout is receiving support from fellow Texas Tech recruits, including 2026 commits Chase Campbell and Felix Ojo. Ojo, an active recruiter for the Red Raiders, responded to Brewster’s recent Instagram post with enthusiasm, indicating ongoing communication and support for the defensive lineman.
Ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect and No. 1 defensive lineman in the nation by 247Sports’ composite rankings, Brewster is highly regarded for his combination of strength, explosiveness, and athleticism. He has even showcased his versatility by playing as a wildcat ball carrier for his team.
If Brewster joins Texas Tech, he would form a formidable defensive line trio with Guyton and Redmond, all of whom are top-125 prospects in the 2027 class. Texas Tech’s continued success with top-tier defensive talent, including Tyree Wilson’s No. 7 selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, positions the Red Raiders to build a strong defensive pipeline.
