Texas Longhorns 5-Star DL Target Sets Commitment Date
As the Texas Longhorns’ 2025 season heats up, so does their recruitment effort for the 2027 class, including a five-star defensive lineman who has listed Texas among his top 10 schools.
Jalen Brewster, a highly sought-after defensive lineman from Cedar Hill, Texas, will announce his commitment on October 4. Currently, 10 schools remain in the running for his decision, including Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU, SMU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Indiana, and USC.
At 6’3″ and 300 pounds, Brewster brings both size and athleticism to the field. Scouting analysts, like Gabe Brooks from 247Sports, describe him as an “explosive front-line defender” with “startling redirecting suddenness” based on his sophomore highlights. Brewster’s performances in both combines and games have earned him recognition as the No. 1 defensive lineman and No. 8 overall prospect in the nation.
As a sophomore, Brewster not only shined as a defensive lineman but also showcased his versatility by taking snaps as a short-yardage ball carrier. Though he’s being recruited primarily as a defensive lineman, his skill set suggests coaches may be able to utilize him in unique ways.
With 10 teams still in the mix, it’s tough to predict where Brewster will commit, but some recruitment outlets like Rivals believe Texas Tech has the edge, with Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and LSU also in strong contention.
While Brewster’s commitment will be a key moment in Texas’ 2027 recruiting class, the Longhorns’ focus on October 4 will primarily be on their SEC opener against the Florida Gators, a critical game for their season. Still, securing Brewster’s commitment could give them momentum in the recruiting cycle and beyond.
